What is Lexapro?
An antidepressant drug use to treat depression associated with mood disorders, although it also may be used in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder and anxiety, including OCD.
DIRECTIONS:
Tablet - Comes as tablet to take by mouth. Do not split, chew or crush them. The tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water.
Liquid – Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.
Your doctor may start you on a low dose of lexapro and increase your dose after 1 week.
STORAGE:
- Keep it in its tightly closed container.
- Keep it out of reach of children.
- Store the capsules and tablets at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
- Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
WARNING:
Before taking Lexapro, Advice your Doctor and Pharmacist if you have these following
- If allergic to lexapro, citalopram (Celexa) or any other medications.
- Do not take lexapro if you are taking an MAO inhibitor or have stopped taking them in the last 2 weeks.
- You should know that lexapro is very similar to another SSRI, citalopram (Celexa). You should not take these two medications together.
- If you are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products.
- If you or anyone in your family has or has ever had, depression, bipolar disorder (mood that changes from depressed to abnormally excited), mania (frenzied, abnormally excited mood)
- If you or anyone in your family has thought about or attempted suicide.
- If you have recently had a heart attack and have or have ever had seizures or liver, kidney, thyroid or heart disease.
- If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
- If you become pregnant while taking lexapro, call your doctor.
